Are you facing challenges in making small industrial devices? A tiny module can handle AI, stay reliable and simplify software. Read on!

We might face many challenges when building industrial IoT devices. Space is always limited, yet performance cannot be compromised. Devices need to work reliably in extreme temperatures and scale efficiently in high-volume production. On top of that, we have to think about adding on-device AI, maintaining long-term software support, keeping systems secure, and meeting evolving regulations. Balancing all of this with compact, rugged hardware is not easy.
To address these challenges, Toradex has launched the Open Standard Module (OSM) Computer on Module family, featuring models based on NXP’s i.MX 93 and i.MX 91 processors. The OSM family are compact, solderable modules designed specifically for industrial IoT applications like controllers, gateways, smart sensors, and handheld devices. The i.MX 93 variants include a 0.5 TOPS NPU, enabling basic on-device machine learning for edge AI tasks such as sensing and analytics.
Following the OSM Size-S specification, these 30×30 mm connector-less modules support automated assembly, rugged use, and cost-efficient scaling for production volumes of several hundred thousand units per year. Built to operate from -40°C to +85°C and supported through 2038, they offer industrial-grade reliability and future-proof design.
All OSM modules come with full Toradex software support, including a Yocto Reference Image and Torizon Linux platform. Torizon enables secure OTA updates, device monitoring, remote access, and helps simplify EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) compliance, while integration with Visual Studio Code and a rich ecosystem accelerates development.
Key Features:
- Ultra-Compact & Solderable: 30×30 mm, connector-less design for automated assembly
- Industrial-Grade Reliability: Long life, robust operation in harsh conditions
- Edge AI: i.MX 93 variants with 0.5 TOPS NPU for on-device machine learning
- Secure, Long-Term Software: Torizon Linux with OTA updates and remote management
- Design Flexibility: Optimized for high-volume, space-constrained industrial IoT devices
“OSM delivers a new compact, reliable, industrial Edge AI compute platform,” said Samuel Imgrueth, CEO at Toradex. “OSM adds a solderable standard form factor for rapid integration and serviceability.”
