The board-mounted 4:1 input DC/DC converter is designed with all necessary features to handle tough conditions while keeping costs low for railway applications.

20W DC/DC Converters For Industrial Use

RECOM has introduced the RPA20-FR series, a new line of high-efficiency 20W DC/DC converters designed for demanding applications. Housed in a compact 1.6” x 1” x 0.4” (40.6mm x 25.4mm x 10.2mm) package, these converters deliver full power across an ultra-wide 36VDC-160VDC input range (withstand 200VDC peak for 1 second) and operate reliably from -40°C to 70°C, extending to 105°C with derating.

Offering fully regulated, low-noise, and protected outputs, the series provides single output options at 5V, 5.1V, 12V, 15V, and 24VDC, adjustable by +20%/-10%. Dual output versions are also available at ±5V, ±12V, and ±15VDC. Other features include remote ON/OFF control with selectable logic, under-voltage lockout, and no minimum load requirement.

Built for Rugged Rail and Industrial Environments

The RPA20-FR series is purpose-built for rolling stock applications, supporting nominal input voltages of 48V, 72V, and 110VDC. These converters meet stringent industry standards, including EN 45545-2 and EN 50155 for railway applications and UL/IEC/EN 62368-1 for audio, video, and IT equipment. They feature 3kVAC reinforced isolation and comply with EMC ‘Class A’ levels, as well as EN 50121-3-2 rail EMC standards.

For enhanced protection against electrical surges, the optional RSP150-168 module ensures compliance with RIA12 and NF F01-51 standards. The series is also tested to meet EN 60068-2-1 for extreme temperatures and EN 61373 for shock and vibration resistance. With an MTBF of over 1.5 million hours (MIL-HDBK-217F, GB at 25°C), these converters offer long-term reliability in the harshest conditions. The series comes with a three-year warranty, and samples and OEM pricing are available through authorized distributors or directly from RECOM.

“The rail environment can be harsh, but these power-dense and reliable DC/DCs offer a cost-effective solution,” said Stanislav Suchovsky, MSc., Technology Engineer at RECOM. “Their robust performance also makes them ideal for industrial, energy, IT, and test and measurement applications.”
