Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced a new series of surface-mount multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) designed for high-voltage commercial applications. The VJ….W1HV High Voltage MLCC Commercial Series comes in seven case sizes, ranging from 1206 to 2225, and expands the capacitance range of Vishay’s existing high-voltage MLCCs. These capacitors use the ultra-stable C0G (NP0) dielectric and are also available with the X7R dielectric for higher capacitance.

The product is suitable for companies in the energy sector for generation, distribution, metering, management, and storage, as well as industrial automation manufacturers for motor drives, power tools, and welding equipment. It is also suitable for consumer electronics companies developing high-voltage appliances, telecom infrastructure providers for mobile and fixed networks, and medical device manufacturers for instrumentation. Additionally, OEMs and electronics designers working on high-voltage circuits can benefit from these MLCCs due to their reliability and cost-effective design.

Manufactured with a base metal electrode (BME) system and a dry sheet technology process, these MLCCs reduce costs while supporting various high-voltage applications. They are used in input and output filtering, as well as snubber capacitors, for energy generation, distribution, metering, management, and storage. Other applications include industrial automation, motor drives, power tools, welding equipment, consumer appliances, telecom infrastructure, and medical instrumentation.

The C0G (NP0) dielectric version offers voltages up to 3000 VDC, capacitance values from 1.5 pF to 82 nF, and a temperature coefficient of capacitance (TCC) of 0 ppm/°C ± 30 ppm/°C between -55 °C and +125 °C. The X7R variant provides capacitance from 100 pF to 100 nF, voltages up to 2000 VDC, and a TCC of ±15 % over the same temperature range.

These MLCCs feature a nickel barrier with 100% tin terminations and are available with polymer terminations for added protection against board flexure. They are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and meet Vishay’s Green standards.
