Raspberry Pi has increased the price of its 16GB Pi 5 by $80, citing limited memory chip supplies. The company says it will reverse the increase when memory costs come down.

The 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 now costs $385, up $80 from its previous price of $305. The increase took effect on 2 November, the same day Raspberry Pi announced that rising memory costs had left it with little choice. This represents a price rise of about 26 per cent for the board.
Eben Upton, who announced the change, attributes the increase to limited alternative supplies of 16GB memory chips, “compounded by other ongoing component shortages.” The 16GB in the product name refers to working memory, or DRAM, used by the board to run programs. The company attributes the increase to limited alternative supplies of 16GB DRAM, compounded by other ongoing component shortages. The 16GB versions of the Compute Module 5 (CM5), designed for makers building the board into their own products, will see a smaller $40 increase. These versions are between $375 and $415, depending on storage and wireless options. However, the official announcement confirms only the $40 increase.
Raspberry Pi says it has avoided raising prices across its entire range. The announcement identifies the 16GB Pi 5 as the only Pi 5 variant affected by this change. The Raspberry Pi 500+, its keyboard-based computer, is also excluded. “We are holding the price,” the company said. In a comment under the announcement, a Raspberry Pi staff member added that the company had “held the price of Raspberry Pi 5 16GB for longer” than the 16GB Compute Modules.
This is not the first price increase linked to memory costs. Raspberry Pi’s news page lists several such increases since February, with the 2GB Pi 4 and Pi 5 also becoming more expensive in October. The explanation remains the same, as does the promise of a reversal. Upton describes the memory situation as “difficult but ultimately temporary” and says the company looks forward to “rolling back our price increases when memory costs fall once again.”
This is not the first price increase linked to memory costs. Raspberry Pi has announced several adjustments during 2026, including increases affecting higher-memory Raspberry Pi 4, Raspberry Pi 5 and Compute Module variants in February and April. In October, the company also increased prices for the 2GB Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5. The latest adjustment highlights how limited DRAM supplies continue to affect the cost of single-board computers.
Indian buyers may also see differences in local pricing. An approved Raspberry Pi channel partner in India, lists the Raspberry Pi 5 8GB at ₹16,950. Its existing 16GB listing shows ₹29,194, although this price has not been confirmed following the latest international increase and the product is currently listed as out of stock. Updated Indian prices for the 16GB Compute Module 5 variants could not be independently confirmed. Buyers should check with approved resellers for current prices before budgeting for projects or commercial deployments.
