Featuring industry-first CORECONF YANG integration, this solution simplifies design, reduces costs, and accelerates time to market—meeting the demands of ADAS and critical automotive applications with functional safety and robust performance.

As automotive OEMs transition to Ethernet solutions to meet the demands for higher bandwidth, enhanced security, and advanced features, Microchip Technology introduces the LAN969x Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Switch Family and VelocityDRIVE Software Platform (SP). Designed to support Software-Defined Networking, this new offering empowers OEMs with flexible configurations, real-time data transfer, and centralized network control.

The SP is a turnkey Ethernet switch software platform paired with a Configuration Tool (CT) based on standardized YANG models. It’s the first solution in the industry to integrate CORECONF YANG, a new standard that allows developers to decouple software from hardware, simplifying design, reducing costs, and accelerating time to market.

The key highlights of switches are:

  • Powered by 1 GHz single-core Arm Cortex-A53 CPU.
  • Delivers multi-gigabit performance with bandwidth from 46 Gbps to 102 Gbps.
  • Supports Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) for precise timing and reliability.
  • Ideal for ADAS and other critical automotive applications.

The switch family also meets ASIL B Functional Safety and AEC-Q100 Automotive Qualification standards, ensuring the reliability required for automotive environments. With built-in ECC SRAM for fast and secure booting, these devices eliminate the need for costly external DDR memory, optimizing them for embedded systems.   They complement its comprehensive automotive Ethernet portfolio, which includes PHY transceivers, controllers, and switches ranging from 10 Mbps to 1000 Mbps.

The family is supported by the LAN9692 VelocityDRIVE Evaluation Board and Configuration Tool (CT). The LAN9691, LAN9692, and LAN9693 switches are available in production quantities, with the VelocityDRIVE Software Platform available for download.

“The VelocityDRIVE Software Platform delivers a simple, standards-based solution for managing in-vehicle Ethernet networks,” says Charlie Forni, vice president of Microchip’s USB and networking group. “By using YANG protocols, developers can create reusable software across multi-vendor networks, further enhancing flexibility.”
