New serial data analysis software enables capture and analysis of multilevel signaling used in PCIe and USB-C, offering higher resolution at higher bandwidths.

Teledyne LeCroy has unveiled its latest innovation, the WaveMaster 8000HD oscilloscope platform, featuring models with bandwidths ranging from 20 to 65 GHz and 12 bits of encoding for superior vertical resolution. This high-bandwidth, high-definition oscilloscope platform continues to offer unparalleled validation and debug capabilities. It now includes the new SDA Expert serial data analysis software option, designed for testing cutting-edge serial data technologies. Expanding on the reliable features of its forerunner, the oscilloscope doubles its bandwidth while also delivering industry-leading high-definition resolution and acquisition memory. These advancements are crucial for effectively characterising next-generation serial data technologies.

Addressing the escalating demands of serial data technologies for higher bandwidth, the oscilloscope offers substantial advancements in bandwidth, resolution, and acquisition memory. With the rapid evolution of serial data technologies such as PCI Express 6.0 and USB4 Specification v2.0, which deliver data rates of up to 64 GT/s and 80 Gbps, respectively, along with the use of multi-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) signals, the need for higher-resolution captures has become paramount. The key features include:

  • Doubles available bandwidth and sample rate from its predecessor
  • Offers 12-bit resolution for characterizing multi-level PAM3 and PAM4 signals
  • 8 Gpts of acquisition memory enhances CrossSync PHY capabilities
  • Enables oscilloscopes to link to protocol analysers for integrated trigger, capture, and view of high-speed serial data signals

It also provides comprehensive serial data expertise through the SDA Expert software option, tailored for technology analysis of PCIe, USB, DisplayPort, and more, along with QualiPHY test packages for simple compliance test automation. These capabilities are especially beneficial for PCIe 6.0, USB4, USB4 Specification v2.0, and other USB Type-C technologies. Additionally, it offers unique capabilities for embedded system debugging, such as seamlessly merging oscilloscope functions with a protocol analyzer, capturing low-speed serial data sideband, and utilizing low-speed serial triggers and decoders for comprehensive debugging using up to 8 Gpts of acquisition memory.

Kevin Prusso, General Manager for Teledyne LeCroy, expressed excitement about the WaveMaster 8000HD, which doubles bandwidth and offers industry-leading high-definition resolution and acquisition memory, crucial for characterizing next-generation serial data technologies. Jim Pappas, Director of Technology Initiatives at Intel Corporation, highlighted the role of innovations like AI, high-performance computing, and ubiquitous computing in driving the growth of industry I/O requirements. He emphasized the importance of solutions from companies like Teledyne LeCroy in supporting the continued growth of applications and ecosystems reliant on high-speed serial data links like PCI Express 6.0 and USB4 Specification v2.0.
