The NB-IoT chipset claims to offer a complete development kit with a built-in multi-band antenna and full access to module Input/Output ports.

Renesas Electronics Corporation has launched a Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) chipset RH1NS200, which the company claims to be a modem chipset explicitly designed to serve the Indian smart metering market. According to the press release issued by the company, the NB-IoT module can operate seamlessly on the networks of all major Indian telecommunications carriers to satisfy “Make in India” requirements. The chipset is claimed to be used in asset tracking, lighting, security and numerous other applications.

According to the company’s claim, the NB-IoT chipset boasts a remarkably low power consumption of only 1uA in deep sleep mode, greatly extending the module’s battery life. The press release highlights that the chipset includes an integrated Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL5+) Secure Element (SE) that guarantees maximum security and eliminates any vulnerabilities that could compromise the safety of end applications, particularly in power and water metering systems.

“We are pleased to have partnered with Renesas to design and develop NB-IoT solutions and reference designs targeting smart applications ranging from water and energy meters to asset tracking. Our collaboration and trials in live 4G and 5G networks in India ensure that our offerings are technologically advanced and market ready. Our expert technology team, as well as our extensive integration, customization, and productization services, are fully aligned with Renesas to provide customers with the support they need to easily adopt and scale NB-IoT applications, helping drive the next generation of intelligent infrastructure and services,” said Manoj Raghavan, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Elxsi.

The key features of the NB-IoT chipset include :

  • Targets bands 1,3, 5 and 8 for India
  • Low PSM of 1µA in a deep sleep with longer eDRX cycles
  • Support for transmit power (Tx) of up to 23dBm for all bands reduces transmission retries
  • Field-proven and Carrier approved LTE protocol stack and software suite
  • Wide operating supply voltage range of 2.2V to 5.5V
