The device has a 4nm system-on-a-chip architecture, offers Wifi 7 and 5G and can handle AI models with over 13bn parameters at high speed.

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has announced the launch of its most powerful computing processor for PCs: the Snapdragon X Elite. This cutting-edge platform marks a significant advancement in premium computing, boasting exceptional CPU performance, on-device artificial intelligence (AI) inferencing capabilities, and impressive power efficiency, providing multi-day battery life on a single charge.

The device has a 4nm system-on-a-chip architecture. The SoC is built using a 4nm manufacturing process, which represents a significant reduction in transistor size compared to previous generations. It features the Qualcomm Oryon CPU with 12 cores, optimising performance for demanding tasks. It also includes dual-core boost for rapid responsiveness.

The system includes a Qualcomm AI Engine with an integrated Qualcomm Hexagon NPU. This enables transformative experiences in creativity, video conferencing, security, and productivity. It can handle generative AI LLM (large language models) models with over 13 billion parameters at high speeds. It has a premium integrated GPU, Qualcomm Adreno GPU, which enhances immersive entertainment experiences.

The device offers 5G and Wi-Fi 7 which enables faster data speeds, lower latency, and improved network reliability. Its Hybrid Backhaul Solution (HBS) multiLink ensures seamless and jitter-free cloud connectivity by optimising how data is transmitted between devices and the cloud. This is important for applications that require real-time data transfer, such as online gaming or video conferencing.

The Snapdragon Seamless feature enhances user experience by enabling effortless device switching. This means that users can switch between devices seamlessly without interruptions, ensuring a smooth transition in activities such as moving from a smartphone to a laptop or vice versa.

Snapdragon X Elite delivers powerful performance while maintaining low power consumption, enabling extended battery life. It supports Snapdragon Sound Technology Suite, providing lossless audio for high-fidelity music and entertainment with wireless headphones.

Qualcomm claims its new Snapdragon X Elite processor offers a 21% performance advantage in multi-core tasks compared to Apple’s latest M3 chip. PCs powered by the Snapdragon X Elite platform are expected to be available from leading OEMs starting in mid-2024.
