With features like comprehensive protection, high efficiency, and vast temperature range operation, these converters are ideal for various industrial and railway applications.

Flex Power Modules is expanding its lineup of industrial DC/DC converters with the introduction of the PKJ8200 series. This ultra-wide 8:1 input module spans 9 to 75 Vdc, with a surge tolerance of 80 V for 1 second. This versatile module offers a range of fully regulated output options, including 12 V, 24 V, 48 V, or 54 Vdc, all capable of delivering 200 W of power.

The series is designed in an industry-standard half-brick format and is cooled via a baseplate. It features through-hole pins for seamless board-mounted installation and has up to 91% conversion efficiency. This high efficiency enables reliable operation across a wide temperature range, from -40 °C to elevated ambient temperatures, with a package temperature limit of 110°C. For instance, the 12 V output variant can provide full load capacity even in environments with an ambient temperature of up to 80°C, all without additional heatsinking, provided there is a 3 m/s airflow.

General Characteristics include:

  • Input under voltage shutdown
  • Remote control
  • Output over-voltage protection
  • Over temperature protection
  • Output short-circuit protection
  •  Output voltage adjust function
  • ISO 9001/14001 certified supplier

Features and Specifications

The series has a broad output adjustment span of -50% to +10%, conveniently adjustable through a single resistor. It has comprehensive protection features, including safeguards against input under-voltage, over-temperature, output over-current, over-voltage, and short circuits. Additionally, it offers remote sensing functionality and includes a primary-referenced remote shutdown pin for added versatility and control. The series is equipped with 2250 Vdc input-output isolation, comprising 1500 Vdc between input and baseplate and 1000 Vdc between output and baseplate. It complies with conducted EMC standards such as EN 55032, CISPR22, and FCC Part 15J Class B when used with the recommended external components.

Versatile Compatibility for Applications

The extensive input range of the series makes these components well-suited for demanding railway applications that operate on nominal 24/36/48 V inputs, accommodating supply fluctuations as outlined in the railway standard EN 50155. Furthermore, these components meet the prescribed levels of shock and vibration as per the standard, and they also fulfil the fire and smoke requirements laid out in railway standard EN 45545-2.

David Xie, Director of R&D and Product Management in Shanghai for Flex Power Modules, states, “Our new PKJ8200 series, featuring an 8:1 input range and a wide output adjustment span, proves to be an excellent choice for railway and industrial applications, where a single component can cater to a diverse range of needs.”
