The centrepiece of this expansion is the next-generation MassFluidix second generation microfluidic chip, which streamlines sample dilution and mass photometry measurement across five channels. This innovative chip launched by Refeyn allows for rapid sample dilution in less than 37 milliseconds, a significant improvement that facilitates better insights into low-affinity and transient biomolecular interactions. These advancements cater to researchers and scientists in fields such as biochemistry, molecular biology, and pharmaceuticals who rely on precise biomolecular measurements.

Company has also made several enhancements to its existing MassFluidix HC microfluidics system. The redesign of the chip eliminates the need for a bubble trap and introduces luer connectors, simplifying the connection of tubing. Furthermore, these chips are now individually packaged, allowing users to utilize one chip at a time as needed, thereby improving convenience and reducing waste.

In addition to the hardware updates, software improvements have been integrated, enabling users to operate the rapid dilution system through acquireMP mass photometer control software. A new automatic microfluidic chip channel detection feature simplifies the measurement process by ensuring accurate chip positioning.

The enhanced rapid dilution capabilities of the upgraded system make it particularly valuable for characterizing highly concentrated samples, which is essential for quality checks in techniques like cryo-electron microscopy and crystallography. This functionality also aids in the detection of weak affinity protein-protein interactions, providing insights into traditionally challenging sample types such as PROTACs and multi-component complexes, alongside more familiar applications like antibody-receptor binding.

Gerry Mackay, CEO, Refeyn, commented, “These new products reflect our commitment to responding to customer needs and working to provide the best possible experience for all users of mass photometry technologies.” Camille Hetez, Director of Consumables, Refeyn noted, “By using consumables that we’ve developed specifically for Refeyn instruments, our customers can benefit from hassle-free measurements.”

They have further introduced a new protein calibration standard, MassFerence P1, to its range of calibration standards. This addition ensures maximum precision in mass photometry measurements, simplifying preparation for users. The MassFerence standard offers standardized references, enhancing replicability across various experiments and laboratories.
