ROHM has unveiled a new series of N-channel power MOSFETs that offer industry-leading ultra-low ON-resistance and wide Safe Operating Area (SOA) capability. These advanced MOSFETs are engineered specifically for use in power supplies found in high-performance enterprise and AI servers, where efficiency and reliability are critical to handle increasing computational demands.

As data processing technologies continue to evolve and digital transformation accelerates, the need for powerful, always-on server infrastructure has risen sharply. These servers, which run 24/7, must manage conduction losses in power conversion circuits, particularly in AC-DC stages, where multiple MOSFETs contribute significantly to overall power loss. Lower ON-resistance is therefore essential for maximizing energy efficiency and system performance.

The key characteristics are:

  • ROHM developed a new DFN5060-8S package (5.0mm × 6.0mm)
  • Supports a die size ~65% larger than conventional HSOP8 packages
  • Enables industry-leading ON-resistance and wide SOA performance
  • Product lineup includes: RS7E200BG (30V) – for 12V AC-DC and hot-swap controller (HSC) circuits in enterprise servers and RS7N200BH (80V) and RS7N160BH (80V) – for 48V AC-DC conversion in AI server power supplies

These new models deliver top-tier performance in compact form factors. At VGS = 10V, the RS7E200BG and RS7N200BH feature ON-resistances of just 0.53mΩ and 1.7mΩ, respectively—setting new benchmarks within their size class. Additionally, ROHM’s improvements to internal clip design have enhanced heat dissipation, boosting SOA performance. For instance, the RS7E200BG can handle over 70A at a 1ms pulse width and VDS = 12V, which is double the tolerance of comparable HSOP8 devices.

The company plans to begin mass production of models optimized for hot-swap controller circuits in AI servers in 2025. These devices will continue to support a wide range of applications, including enterprise and AI server power supplies as well as 48V industrial equipment. The new MOSFETs are available now at $5.50 per unit (sample pricing, excluding tax) through online distributors including DigiKey, Mouser, and Farnell.
