Designing devices with magnetic sensing can be difficult when space is limited. Standard reed switches can be too large for compact electronics. They may fail after repeated use or provide inconsistent switching performance. This can affect devices in medical equipment, hearing aids, industrial systems, or other electronics that rely on accurate magnetic detection. In addition, production requirements for high-volume manufacturing make it challenging to use switches that are fragile or require complex handling.

The CT04 series from Coto Technology is a dry reed switch designed to address these challenges. It is an overmolded, single-pole, single-throw switch with ruthenium contacts that are hermetically sealed. The switch can be activated by either an electromagnet, a permanent magnet, or both. It is made for surface-mount applications and comes in lead configurations that include Gull Wing or J-bend styles. The CT04 keeps the same printed circuit board footprint as the earlier CT05 series but has been redesigned for high-volume production. Each unit is tested for switching performance and sensitivity, including checks after lead cutting and bending, and can operate up to one billion cycles.

This product can be used by electronic design engineers and manufacturers who need to build devices where space is limited and reliable magnetic sensing is required. Applications include medical devices, proximity sensing systems, hearing aids, and devices in industrial automation or automotive electronics. It allows engineers to integrate a magnetic switch that can meet repeated use requirements, fit into small designs, and perform consistently in production and end-use environments.
