A new glass-protected thermistor brings high accuracy, wide temperature endurance, and good ESD strength to automotive, industrial, and sensor-dense designs offering a compact upgrade for next-generation electronics.

A new AEC-Q200 qualified NTC thermistor by Vishay Intertechnology in the compact 0402 case size has been introduced, aimed at designers who need precise temperature sensing in harsh or space-constrained environments. The component combines a high B25/85 value of 4311 K with a 100 kΩ resistance at 25 °C, delivering tight performance tolerances suited for next-generation automotive lighting, power modules, battery packs, and sensor electronics.
The device arrives fully glass-coated, offering mechanical robustness and enhanced long-term stability. Its ±1% tolerance for both resistance and beta value supports accurate temperature compensation across a broad −55 °C to +150 °C operating range. The component also withstands electrostatic shocks above 25 kV (HBM), an important parameter for ESD-critical systems in vehicles and industrial equipment.
The key features are:
- TCR spans from –6.5 %/K at –40 °C to –2 %/K at 150 °C
- R25 tolerance available down to ±1%
- Compatible with both wave and reflow soldering
Because it follows the industry-standard 0402 footprint (0.5 mm × 0.5 mm × 1 mm), the thermistor serves as a drop-in alternative for existing layouts. Typical applications include automotive LED modules, ECUs, Li-ion battery protection circuits, camera and radar units, energy meters, and safety-critical smoke and fire detectors. Its small size and rugged build make it equally relevant for compact office electronics and sensor-dense consumer devices.
Construction is SMD-based with NiSn terminations, enabling compatibility with wave and reflow soldering. The component is halogen-free and RoHS-compliant, aligning with global green-electronics requirements. For volume production, it ships in 10,000-unit punched paper tape reels, and engineers can accelerate design-in work using the available SPICE simulation model.
As temperature accuracy becomes increasingly critical across electric mobility, smart sensing, and industrial automation, ultra-small NTC thermistors with high-beta stability continue to play a foundational role. Vishay’s latest glass-protected device positions itself for emerging applications where reliability, durability, and tight thermal response are essential.
