The automotive TVS diodes protect EV battery systems with low clamping voltage and ISO-26262 compliance for high-voltage applications.

Littelfuse, Inc., a manufacturer of industrial technology solutions, has introduced the TPSMB-L Series Automotive TVS Diodes. These diodes are designed for Battery Management Systems (BMS) in 800 V electric vehicles (EVs) and feature an ultra-low clamping voltage (Vcl) for enhanced protection of sensitive components like Analog Front End (AFE) and Battery Management ICs (BMICs). They are also suitable for high-voltage automotive systems that require ISO-26262 compliance, making them ideal for advanced EV architectures.
As the demand for reliable EV components grows, the TPSMB-L Series meets modern vehicles’ high performance and safety requirements. These diodes comply with ISO-26262, the global standard for automotive functional safety, ensuring reliable operation in critical BMS applications. View the video.
A few key features of the TVS diode include:
- Ultra-low clamping voltage (Vcl) protects AFEs and BMICs from voltage spikes and surges.
- AEC-Q101 qualified with PPAP Level 3 compliance for automotive-grade reliability.
- 600 W peak pulse power capability in a compact SMB DO-214AA package.
- Supports 14- to 20-cell BMS configurations for high-voltage EV battery systems.
- Fast response time safeguards against electrostatic discharge (ESD) and transient voltage surges.
AFE ICs process analogue signals like battery cell voltage and temperature for digital conversion, while BMICs manage cell balancing and voltage regulation functions. The TPSMB-L Automotive Series TVS Diodes protect these components by limiting transient voltages, ensuring reliable operation and compliance with safety standards.
“With the growing complexity and power demands of electric vehicle systems, protecting critical electronics components like AFEs and Battery Management Systems ICs are more important than ever,” said Charlie Cai, Director of Product Management, Protection Business at Littelfuse. “By combining ultra-low clamping voltage with automotive-grade performance, the TPSMB-L Series empowers engineers to meet stringent functional safety standards like ISO-26262 while providing robust reliability.”
