Orbbec has launched the Pulsar ME450, the world’s first dToF 3D LiDAR combining a MEMS mirror with a motor. This integration enables configurable scanning patterns and an adjustable vertical field of view.

The sensor introduces dynamic multi-pattern scanning with three modes: non-repetitive, repetitive, and dense repetitive. Robotics systems can switch instantly between modes without replacing devices. Vertical field of view and rotation speed can also be adjusted to suit different environments.

This flexibility allows one device to serve navigation and dense 3D reconstruction, simplifying design, reducing cost, and improving reliability. Target applications include smart forklifts, logistics robots, lawn mowers, and surveying equipment.

The company claims that the LiDAR offers millimeter-level accuracy, high-quality 3D reconstruction, and advanced reflectivity detection for stable operation across varied surfaces and interference-heavy conditions.

Guo Wei, head of Orbbec’s LiDAR R&D team said, “The Pulsar ME450 represents the industry’s first multi-pattern LiDAR combining high-precision MEMS pitch scanning with motorized azimuth control. By overcoming single-mode limitations, we’re delivering unprecedented flexibility and reliability for robotic environmental perception.”

Some of the key features of the Pulsar ME450 include:

  • Can switch between three scanning modes: non-repetitive, repetitive, and dense repetitive
  • Vertical field of view can be adjusted as needed
  • Rotation speed can be changed for different tasks
  • One sensor works for both navigation and detailed 3D mapping
  • Helps reduce system parts and overall cost
  • Gives millimeter-level accuracy in 3D reconstruction
  • Works reliably on different surfaces and in tough conditions
  • Can be used in forklifts, logistics robots, lawn mowers, and surveying tools
  • Part of a full set of sensing technologies from the company

The launch builds on earlier developments, including the MS200 LiDAR (2022), LS635 SPAD SoC (2024), and Pulsar SL450 (2025). With these, Orbbec continues expanding its end-to-end portfolio covering stereo vision, structured light, iToF, dToF, and LiDAR.
