Role and Responsibilities
We are looking for an Electronics designer as R&D Senior Engineer at ABB Global Industries and Services Private Limited (GISPL).
This position is opened in the Motion Drive Products (MODP) Division, which is a global technology leader in variable frequency drives. We keep the world turning, while saving energy every day. Our drives help our customers to achieve energy efficiency, sustainability and achieve profitable growth. Reporting to the Division R&D Manager in Bangalore, you will collaborate with high‑performing teams developing and validating shippable, energy‑efficient products for both India and global markets. As part of ABB’s worldwide MODP R&D community, you’ll contribute to technologies that not only power industry but also help reduce energy consumption and support a more sustainable future.
Your Responsibilities
- You will be responsible for design and development of digital electronic hardware schematics, incorporating microcontrollers, memory devices, Analog front end, ADCs, DACs, and other high‑speed components.
- Develop circuit board architectures based on product and system‑level requirements, ensuring scalability, robustness, and reliability, adhering to ABB standards.
- Implement the best possible design to meet product performance and cost benefits associated with it. Ensure required tools, process and methodologies are used to meet the product requirements.
- Collaboratively work with PCB layout engineers to ensure alignment with design rules, thermal constraints, EMI/EMC compliance, and manufacturability.
- Prepare detailed hardware specifications, design documentation, test specifications and test reports. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—firmware, mechanical, systems, and manufacturing—to ensure product feasibility and performance.
- Hardware validation, including functional tests, EMI/EMC certification, and regulatory compliance activities. Development of Functional and ICT testers for the products.
- Support component evaluation, vendor discussions, and resolution of design, fabrication, or assembly issues.
- Adherence to the Product Lifecycle Management process as per ABB standards.
Qualifications
- M.Tech / B.Tech or equivalent in Electronics or Electrical engineering with 7–10 years of industry experience in digital electronics hardware design.
- Ability to produce digital electronic board specifications, from product or architecture requirements. Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design tools such as PADS (preferred), OrCAD, or similar platforms.
- Demonstrated expertise in schematic development involving microcontrollers, FPGAs, memory interfaces, data converters, and related high‑speed digital circuitry. Understanding of PCB material, stack-up design, PCB assembly processes and EMI/EMC best practices.
- Knowledge of DFM/DFT principles and IPC standards (IPC-2221, IPC-6012) and Material compliance.
- Strong hands‑on experience with hardware validation, including functional testing, EMI/EMC testing, Environmental testing and certifications.
- Solid understanding of thermal analysis, signal integrity, and Power integrity analysis with Understanding of 3D modelling and mechanical design.
- Knowledge on test equipment, FCT and ICT testers, PLM systems and change management processes.
- A proactive, innovative mindset with strong problem‑solving skills.
