Position Summary
- The Electrical Hardware Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of electrical hardware components and electrical systems used in Atlas weathering instruments including but not limited to the next generation embedded I/O controllers, next generation power supplies and lamp controller boards, and next generation embedded PC’s and sensor electronics and printed circuit boards.
- The Electrical Hardware Engineer will support various electrical hardware sustaining activities and PCBA development with third-party developers and will maintain and update existing component specifications, system schematics and requirements and will practice electrical engineering design principles and collaborate and work closely with other electrical engineers from the same department and other departments.
- The Electrical Hardware Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing electrical components or systems to high specifications by focusing on safety, quality, economy, and sustainability, will be involved in projects from design to test and implementation stages, will be required to design and conduct tests and record and analyze data obtained from those experiments, and will apply electrical engineering knowledge and background and technical expertise in Electronics, PCB design and layout, analog and digital, mixed signal circuit designs, power electronics and will be challenged to be resourceful, and will need to communicate complex electrical design projects and PCB layout topics with various engineers within the EE department.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Must have skills:
- B.S. degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from a four-year college or university. MS or PhD degree is a plus.
- 3+ years of electrical engineering and hardware development experience working with electrical and electronic devices, new product developments in the commercial and consumer electronics industry.
- Excellent knowledge of analog and digital circuit designs on a broad range of common electronic components and integrated circuits and board designs.
- Excellent knowledge electrical engineering lab test instruments and able to work in a lab environment and use various debug tools such as JTAG, oscilloscopes, multimeters, power meters, EMI analysers, FET probes, HV probes, multimeters, and various benchtop test instruments.
- Good knowledge of designing printed circuit boards using Altium Designer, and build and assemble prototypes, and ability to own and perform your own PCB layout, schematic entry, routing, EMI designs, grounding.
- Good interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to write technical reports, procedure manuals and other related business correspondences.
- Familiar with regulatory standards and able to certify products with third-party compliance agencies such as UL or TUV, EMC/EMI Third-party labs.
Nice to have skills
- Knowledge of using AutoCAD Electrical and Autodesk inventor design tools.
- Knowledge to test and debug power electronics circuits and power systems and maintain good understanding of AC and DC circuits.
- Knowledge of various CAD design tools and simulation tools, such as PSPICE, LTSPICE, AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, Mathcad
- Knowledge of using LabVIEW graphical programming.
- Knowledge of embedded systems and processors and microcontroller designs
- Knowledge of C programming and firmware code to test and debug.
