The Test Design Engineer shall be responsible for design, development, validation and support of automated test systems for electronic modules, PCBAs, sub-assemblies and product test setups. The role requires strong hands-on capability in NI LabVIEW development, test hardware design and integration, with added advantage of embedded system development using C/C++.
You’ll make a difference by
- Develop automated test software using NI LabVIEW for functional test, measurement automation, data acquisition, result logging and report generation.
- Design and integrate test hardware including fixtures, adapters, interface circuits, signal conditioning circuits, switching circuits and wiring schemes.
- Understand product schematics, test requirements and interface documents to define test strategy and test coverage.
- Develop test sequences for PCBAs, electronic modules and system level assemblies.
- Interface and control instruments such as power supplies, DAQ cards, DMMs, oscilloscopes, function generators, electronic loads, HiPot testers and communication devices.
- Perform debugging of test software, hardware and product interfaces during development and validation phase.
- Support verification, validation and handover of test setups to production or test field users.
- Prepare required documentation such as test concept, electrical drawings, software logic, user instructions, validation reports and maintenance guidelines.
- Support troubleshooting, improvements and upgrades of existing test systems for better reliability, coverage, cycle time and user friendliness.
- Coordinate with product design, manufacturing, quality, procurement and suppliers for timely completion of test system development.
- Good hands-on experience in NI LabVIEW application development.
- Knowledge of LabVIEW architecture, state machine, event structure, data logging, report generation and instrument communication.
- Experience in hardware development for test systems including analog, digital and mixed signal circuits.
- Ability to read and understand electronic schematics, PCB interfaces and product test requirements.
- Experience with DAQ systems, measurement instruments and communication protocols such as RS232, RS485, Ethernet, CAN, USB or similar.
- Basic to good knowledge of C/C++ programming.
- Understanding of embedded systems, microcontroller interfaces, firmware flashing and product communication will be preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical safety, EHS requirements and safe working practices for test setups.
- Good debugging skills for software, electronics hardware and complete test bench integration.
Desired Skills
- B.E. / B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, or equivalent engineering discipline.
- Minimum 3-6 years of relevant experience
- Experience in automated test equipment development for PCBAs, control electronics, power electronics or railway/industrial products.
- Experience in functional test, in-circuit test, boundary scan, HiPot test, insulation test or end-of-line test systems.
- Experience in test fixture design, adaptor design, wiring, connector selection and signal routing.
- Exposure to PLC/Simatic based automation, Python, TestStand or database connectivity will be an added advantage.
- Experience in preparing for test FMEA, test coverage analysis and validation documentation.
- Hands-on and problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to work independently with ownership of assigned test system development.
- Good coordination with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
- Clear documentation and communication skills.
- Willingness to work on shopfloor, lab and test field environment as required.
