New 3kA SIDACtor Thyristor Series For High-Power Density Applications

Littelfuse, Inc. has unveiled the Pxxx0S3N-A Automotive Grade 3kA SIDACtor Protection Thyristor Series, now available in the DO-214AB package. This product is engineered to offer robust and dependable high-surge current protection for equipment operating in challenging environments, simplifying compliance with regulatory standards for designers.

The distinguishing feature of the series is its high power density design, capable of withstanding surge currents of up to 3 kA (8/20 µs) and voltages up to 6 kV while maintaining a low clamping voltage. This compact SIDACtor component, conveniently housed in the DO-214AB (SMC) package, empowers automotive manufacturers to realise high-power density designs and enhance product miniaturisation in automotive electronics. This achievement marks a departure from the past, where achieving such formidable surge ratings necessitated a considerably larger TO-262 package.

Specifically engineered for applications in Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), the series delivers unparalleled transient surge protection for onboard chargers when used in tandem with a MOV combination. By seamlessly integrating this compact SIDACtor into their systems, automotive manufacturers can achieve heightened reliability, robustness, and cost-efficiency in AC power protection for charging systems.
