To offer high-performance connectivity (PRP/HSR), the DA-820C series, a fanless 19-inch 3U rackmount computer has been developed by Moxa that features a powerful 7 generation Intel Xeon or Core i7/i5/i3 processor and multiple expansion interfaces to incorporate PRP/HSR, IRIG-B, serial, and Gigabit Ethernet fibre SFP connectivity for smart grid applications.

Suitable For Smart Grid Needs

Transmission system operators (TSOs) in brownfield substation modernisation projects are involved in collecting and displaying data from both legacy and new equipment running on different operating systems. The DA-820C comes with an Intel Xeon or Core i7/i5/i3 processor that can run virtual machines to support dual or triple operating systems. By using only one high-performance computer to run multiple operating systems on virtual machines, instead of installing multiple computers to run each OS separately saves space and costs.

Designed to enable IEC 61850 transformation, the computer supports native PRP/HSR connectivity. To handle high-speed, low-latency communications for exchanging large amounts of data while withstanding high EMI/EMC interference, the DA-820C features SFP interface for Gigabit Ethernet fibre optic communications to connect intelligent electronic devices (IEDs).

Robust Design

Computers used in substations must be able to withstand harsh environments, including extreme temperatures and high levels of electromagnetic interference. The DA-820C complies with IEC-61850-3 and IEEE 1613 standards to deliver reliable system operation. Compliance with the IEC 60255 standard ensures the DA-820C will work reliably and seamlessly with IEDs as part of a robust substation automation system. Also, EN 50121-4 compliance confirms that the DA-820C can work reliably in rail wayside traction power systems.

Proactive Monitoring Utility

Since substation computers are often located at unmanned or remote sites, Moxa provides an easy-to-use utility, Proactive Monitoring, to help TSOs monitor their computer system’s status and take preventive maintenance measures. Proactive Monitoring provides a dashboard to track a number of system parameters, such as CPU, memory, and storage usage, as well as the temperature of the CPU and motherboard. Moreover, users can configure the tool based on user-defined criteria to trigger visual or audio alarms via relays and SNMP traps.
