MIKROE has introduced EnOcean 5 Click, a bidirectional wireless communication board designed for EnOcean based sensors, switches and actuators. The board functions as a low power gateway using EnOcean Serial Protocol 3.0, enabling integration into building automation systems that require cable free and energy efficient device connectivity.

Built around the TCM 615 radio transceiver module from EnOcean, the board supports transmission and reception of radio telegrams at 868.3 MHz using EnOcean Radio Protocol 1. An integrated 50 ohm RF PCB trace antenna is included, allowing deployment without additional RF design work. With a sensitivity of minus 95 dBm and output power of plus 10 dBm, it is specified for reliable indoor and outdoor communication.

By enabling fast integration of self powered wireless switches and sensors, the board can reduce wiring complexity in lighting control, shutter management, HVAC interfaces and energy monitoring systems. Local processing through the ESP3 serial interface allows communication with microcontrollers over UART at baud rates of 57,600 bps and 460,800 bps, supporting flexible system level design.

Security features defined by the EnOcean Alliance, including encryption, decryption, authentication and replay protection, are implemented on board to support secure device communication in commercial and industrial environments. The board also supports the mikroBUS standard and includes ClickID for automatic host identification, simplifying deployment across development platforms. Open source mikroSDK libraries are provided for evaluation and customization.

Nebojsa Matic, CEO of MIKROE, says, “This new Click board is ideal for developing energy-efficient dimmers, relays, and shutter controllers that rely on self-powered EnOcean switches. It is part of our 260+ strong family of wireless connectivity Click boards and over 850 projects – with working code – featuring the EnOcean 5 Click can be found on MIKROE’s embedded projects platform, EmbeddedWiki.”
