A multifunctional development tool combines debugging, digital signal analysis, automated microcontroller programming, and secure provisioning to simplify embedded system development and production testing.

Nuvoton Technology’s Nu-Link3-Pro programmer and debugger combines logic analysis, high-speed instruction tracing, automated programming, and multi-protocol communication in a single tool for embedded system developers. Designed for applications involving industrial automation, automotive electronics, and complex embedded systems, it enables developers to debug firmware, analyse digital signals, and program devices without requiring separate hardware for each task.
The tool uses a USB Type-C interface for connectivity and supports real-time instruction tracing at up to 110 MHz for Nuvoton’s NuMicro microcontrollers. This helps developers capture processor activity and investigate system behaviour in demanding, time-sensitive applications. Its support for multiple operating voltages, including 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5V, also allows it to accommodate different hardware configurations.
A key feature is its integrated logic analyser, which captures digital signals and decodes multiple communication protocols. By combining signal verification with debugging and programming, the device can help engineers identify interface issues and reduce hardware verification time during development.
The Nu-Link3-Pro also supports automated offline programming through MicroPython. Developers can store a customised MAIN.PY script on a microSD card to configure programming operations for specific requirements. This allows the tool to be integrated into automated test setups and manufacturing workflows, reducing manual intervention during repetitive programming tasks.
The key features are:
- USB Type-C connectivity
- 110 MHz maximum instruction-trace frequency
- MicroPython-based offline programming
- Integrated hardware key store
- Hardware encryption and decryption engine
For communication and peripheral testing, the device supports Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), Inter-Integrated Circuit (I²C), Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitter (UART), and RS-485 interfaces, alongside newer I3C and Controller Area Network Flexible Data-Rate (CAN FD) protocols. These capabilities help developers test high-speed data exchanges and connectivity in industrial and automotive systems.
The tool also offers secure provisioning for applications requiring protected device credentials. It generates private keys within the device and stores them in a hardware key store. A hardware encryption and decryption engine supports certificate issuance and encrypted programming, helping prevent private keys from leaving the device during provisioning.
By consolidating debugging, signal analysis, programming automation, and security functions, the Nu-Link3-Pro can simplify embedded development workflows while supporting the transition from prototype validation to production programming.
