What happens when edge computing runs entirely on performance cores? A modular platform hints at deterministic processing for robotics, measurement systems and industrial machines.

Congatec has introduced new versions of its COM HPC Client Size C Computer on Module platform, conga HPC cBLS, powered by Intel Core Series 2 processors built exclusively on high performance P cores. The modules are intended for edge computing systems that must process multiple data streams with predictable performance. Supporting up to 192 GB of memory and offering 42 PCIe lanes for high bandwidth connectivity, the platform is designed for applications that require significant compute capability within a compact workstation class module format.
The modules use a homogeneous CPU architecture with up to twelve identical P cores operating at frequencies of up to 5.7 GHz. A unified instruction set helps simplify the development of low latency systems with deterministic behavior. The design relies on socketed LGA processors, allowing system developers to upgrade computing capability through module replacement while retaining the carrier board design.
Such capabilities support workloads including data logging in stationary or mobile test environments, real time control for robots, CNC machines and automated production systems, and AI based quality inspection. The modules are also positioned for sectors such as test and measurement, medical imaging, smart grids, energy systems, robotics and industrial process automation where consistent compute performance is required.
Additional features include integrated Intel UHD Graphics with up to 32 execution units supporting Intel Deep Learning Boost and Vector Neural Network Instructions for AI inference tasks. The platform supports up to four SO DIMM sockets with ECC protected memory, dual 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and I/O options including USB 3.2, USB 2.0, SATA, UART, GPIO, I2C and high definition audio. Active cooling solutions with heat spreaders and heat pipe adapters are available to support thermal management, including in sealed system designs. The modules support operating systems such as Microsoft Windows 11, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise, Linux and Ubuntu Pro.
Jürgen Jungbauer, Senior Product Line Manager at congatec, says, “Thanks to their outstanding performance-per-euro ratio, our COM-HPC Client Size C modules with socketed processors present an attractive alternative to traditional motherboards—especially for system designs with high performance and scalability requirements that demand regular technology refresh cycles.”
