A modular technology converts waste oils and fats into low-emission jet fuel and renewable diesel.
The renewable fuels project in Bahia Brazil, will use Honeywell’s technologies to turn waste oils, fats and greases into renewable fuels. This project is being developed by Acelen Renewables, focused on producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel.
The project uses Honeywell UOP’s Ecofining technology which was developed in collaboration with Eni SpA. It transforms waste into fuels that can be used for airplanes and diesel cars. The sustainable aviation fuel mixed with regular jet fuel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent.
The project also includes integrated automation and safety systems for the facility. The system combines process control, monitoring, and safety functions. This will support plant operations and risk management.
The project uses a modular construction approach that can be transported to the site for installation. This approach is designed for renewable fuel facilities and the project is part of broader efforts to expand the production of sustainable aviation fuel.
Industry forecasts indicate that the need for aviation fuel will go up a lot in the next ten years. Airlines and governments want to reduce emissions from airplanes. One of the main challenges is increasing fuel production to large volumes without increasing cost.
The plant in Bahia will help Brazil make renewable fuels by using agricultural resources and wastes. The facility is expected to contribute to the development of Brazil’s renewable fuel industry.
