Compact Jetson Carrier Board Brings AI Performance to Drones and Robotics

A credit card-sized carrier board for NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX modules combines high-performance edge AI computing with a compact footprint, offering extensive connectivity, flexible storage options and robust power protection for drones, robots and embedded AI systems.

The growing demand for edge artificial intelligence (AI) in robotics, drones and autonomous systems is driving the need for smaller yet more capable computing platforms. Addressing this requirement, the WeAct N006 carrier board provides a compact solution for NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX modules, enabling developers to integrate advanced AI processing into space-constrained applications without compromising connectivity or performance.

Measuring just 90 × 60 mm, the carrier board is roughly the size of a credit card while supporting Jetson Orin NX 8 GB and 16 GB modules operating at up to 40 W in Super Mode. Despite its compact dimensions, it exposes a comprehensive range of interfaces required for embedded AI development, including HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, dual MIPI CSI camera connectors, USB 3.2 ports, USB Type-C, GPIO, I²C, UART and CAN bus. These interfaces simplify the integration of cameras, sensors, motor controllers and other peripherals commonly used in robotics and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The board also offers flexible storage and networking capabilities through dual M.2 sockets. A Key-M slot supports PCIe Gen4 ×4 NVMe solid-state drives for high-speed local storage, while a Key-E slot accommodates optional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules, allowing developers to build self-contained AI systems with reliable wireless connectivity.

Designed for field deployment, the carrier board accepts 16 V to 28 V DC input via an XT30 connector, with 24 V recommended, and supports direct connection to 6S battery packs, making it particularly suitable for drones and mobile robots. Integrated protection against undervoltage, overvoltage, overcurrent and reverse polarity enhances operational reliability in demanding environments.

Although the compact board still requires the Jetson Orin NX’s active heatsink and cooling assembly, it significantly reduces the overall footprint compared with conventional development kits. Combined with supporting documentation, software resources and an accessible price point, the WeAct N006 provides developers with a practical platform for accelerating AI-powered robotics, autonomous machines and embedded vision applications.
