AI tools automate server management and application development, while a server supports local AI inference for enterprise workloads.

IBM has added AI-based automation to its Power platform, covering system management and IBM i application development. It has also launched the Power S1112, a compact Power11 server for running AI inference locally.
The Power S1112 is a one-socket server designed for on-premises AI workloads. It uses Power11’s on-chip Matrix Math Acceleration (MMA) to support AI inference closer to where enterprise data is stored.
The company says the S1112 delivers twice the core performance of the Power S914 and three times that of the Power S814. It also provides up to 69% higher energy efficiency than the S914.
IBM has also added AI assistance for IBM i application development through the IBM Bob Premium Package for i. The tool helps developers understand existing code, make changes, and work on application modernisation.
The package includes support for IBM i-specific coding patterns and development practices. This is particularly relevant for applications written in RPG, where finding developers with the required skills can be difficult.
According to the company, Heartland Co-Op found that developers who were new to the platform could understand complex applications 60% faster using the tool.
The new capabilities come as enterprises use more AI agents in their IT environments. IBM’s Institute for Business Value 2026 Tech Leader Study estimates that enterprises expect to deploy an average of 1,661 AI agents by 2027, up 38%.
This increase could create more autonomous decisions and IT activity that need to be monitored. IBM is therefore using AI agents not only for application development but also for parts of system operations.
The Power S1112 also expands the Power11 range with a smaller system for organisations that want to run AI workloads locally instead of sending data to external infrastructure.
