RF Cable Assemblies Support Routing Up To 40GHz

Compact defence electronics demand flexible, high-frequency signal routing without compromising chassis design. How can specialised RF cable assemblies help engineers meet these requirements?

SV Microwave has introduced SMPS VITA 67.3 Gen2 cable assemblies for high-frequency radio frequency (RF) signal routing in military, aerospace and other demanding electronic applications. Supporting frequencies up to 40GHz, the assemblies combine flexible coaxial cables with right-angle connectors to help engineers integrate RF connections into space-constrained chassis.

The assemblies offer flexibility in chassis design by accommodating different interconnection layouts. Their right-angle connector configurations can help manage cable routing around other components, while flexible cabling allows connections to pass through confined spaces. Available in common metric lengths, the assemblies also give engineers greater choice when planning cable runs and positioning RF components within an enclosure.

These characteristics make the assemblies suitable for systems requiring dense RF interconnects, including phased-array radar and electronic warfare equipment. In such applications, careful signal routing is important for integrating high-frequency components within compact electronic platforms. The choice of connector configuration and cable length can help designers accommodate packaging constraints without changing the overall approach to RF integration.

Each assembly combines VITA 67.3 Gen2 plug-in contacts with flexible 0.047-inch coaxial cable. Engineers can choose between right-angle subminiature push-on (SMPM) and subminiature push-on standard (SMPS) connectors, depending on their design requirements. The assemblies comply with the VITA 67.3 standard and support operating frequencies up to 40GHz, making them suitable for specified RF and microwave applications.

Potential applications include military and aerospace electronics, phased-array radar systems and electronic warfare jamming systems, where compact packaging and reliable RF connectivity are important design considerations.
