Taoglas, a provider of antenna and IoT solutions, has introduced the Thunder Series—an outdoor antenna enclosure platform designed for integration with industrial routers. The Thunder Series helps engineers reduce signal loss, simplify installation, and lower deployment costs.
The series is designed for network engineers, system integrators, and organisations that deploy industrial routers in outdoor environments where reliable connectivity and easy installation are required. Smart city planners, infrastructure providers, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can utilize the antenna and enclosure design to minimise signal loss, reduce cabling, and simplify deployment.
Designed for routers from Digi, Ericsson, and Semtech, the Thunder Series combines Taoglas’ antenna technology with an enclosure that houses the router inside the antenna unit. This setup eliminates the need for long RF cables, reducing cable length per deployment and minimising signal loss, setup time, and costs associated with separate installations.
Operating across the 600–6000 MHz range, the Thunder Series supports 5G/4G, Wi-Fi, GNSS, and Bluetooth. By placing the router and antenna in the same enclosure, the system minimises cable loss, reduces the number of installation steps, and enhances data connectivity. A PoE splitter allows power to be supplied to the router.
The Thunder Series is available in both directional and omnidirectional models, featuring IP67-rated ABS enclosures that protect against water, dust, and vibration. It is utilised in various sectors, including transportation, mining, agriculture, smart cities, and automation. In one example, the Thunder Series is employed in number plate recognition systems, which are powered by streetlight infrastructure to minimise cabling and facilitate installation in urban areas.
“Installing antennas and routers separately can be time-consuming and cause signal loss,” said Chris Friend, VP of NA Sales M&I at Taoglas. “Thunder offers a more integrated and efficient way to deploy connectivity using routers already in use.”
