Amphenol RF has added 2.92 mm SMA precision adapters into its range of coaxial adapters, targeting labs and production units that perform RF testing. Sub Miniature version A (SMA) is a semi-precision, threaded coaxial RF connector designed for high-frequency  and microwave applications, ensuring a stable impedance connection for minimal signal loss.

The company said off-the-shelf products are intended for engineers working with broadband applications that demand precise measurements.

These adapters support frequencies up to 26.5 GHz. This frequency spectrum covers radar systems testing, network analysis, RF production testing and high-frequency modules evaluations. This high frequency testing is also central in testing defence equipment communication.

Featuring an air-dielectric interface, these adapters reduce signal loss and maintain Low Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (Low-VSWR) for optimal measurement accurate test data. Its operating temperature range is specified from  −65 °C to +165 °C. This allows for lab controlled testing and also on-field testing conditions

The design follows MIL-STD-348 compliant interfaces. These adapters are compatible with standard SMA and 2.92 mm (SMK) connectors. The body and coupling nut are machined from passivated stainless steel and feature a contact made from gold-plated beryllium copper.

The retaining ring is SUS 304 (stainless steel alloy) with a silicone gasket, and the 2.92 mm insulator is made from PTFE while the SMA insulator is made from Ultem 1000. This new off-the-shelf solution joins a broad offering of adapters designed to meet the increasing need for high-frequency data transmission in next-generation designs.
