Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the TSOP15300 series of infrared (IR) receiver modules designed to support all major remote control codes using a single component. The devices are intended for consumer electronics, offering broad protocol compatibility while reducing the need for multiple frequency-specific IR receivers in remote-controlled systems.

Conventional IR receivers are typically tuned to a single modulation frequency, requiring different components to support multiple remote control standards. The TSOP15300 series addresses this limitation with a modulation frequency acceptance range of 30kHz to 68kHz, enabling a single receiver to decode a wide variety of IR remote control protocols. This approach can reduce component count, save board space and simplify hardware design for manufacturers developing products that support multiple remote control formats.

The receiver modules integrate a photodetector, preamplifier circuit and IR filter within a compact four-pin Heimdall package. The demodulated output can be connected directly to a microprocessor for signal decoding, simplifying system integration. Designed for short burst codes, the devices operate from a supply voltage of 2.0V to 5.5V while drawing a typical supply current of 0.35mA. The modules also provide immunity against ripple noise and interference from common sources, including compact fluorescent lamps, LCD televisions and onboard Wi-Fi antennas, improving signal reliability in electrically noisy environments.

When paired with a 50mA IR emitter, the receivers support transmission distances of up to 18m, making them suitable for televisions, audio systems, gaming consoles, soundbars, set-top boxes, video projectors and other consumer electronics. The devices are also RoHS-compliant, halogen-free and certified under the Vishay Green environmental programme.
