Magnachip Semiconductor has released its 8th-generation 40V and 60V medium-voltage MOSFETs for server and high-performance PC power supply units. The devices are meant for power systems in servers, data centers, and high-performance computing. These systems are under rising power demand, which increases the need for better efficiency and higher power density in power supply designs. The MOSFETs are used mainly in synchronous rectification stages of these power supplies, where switching performance and power loss are important.

Both 40V and 60V devices are designed to reduce losses and improve switching in high-load conditions. The 40V MOSFETs use SGT technology and offer up to 40% higher current density and about 25% faster switching compared to the previous generation. The 60V devices provide up to 50% higher current density and around 60% faster switching performance.

The devices include a fast anti-parallel diode function that helps manage and discharge residual current during switching. This supports more stable operation during transitions. They are rated for operation up to 175°C, which allows use in high-temperature environments common in server and industrial systems. The components are built in a PDFN56 package to support compact power supply layouts.

The MOSFET lineup follows JEDEC standards and is intended for server and high-performance PC power supplies. It is also aimed at other power applications such as solar inverters and industrial equipment, where efficiency and reliability are required.

The new release expands the 8th-generation range with additional 40V options of 0.8 mΩ and 1.0 mΩ, along with a 1.05 mΩ 60V device. This increases the range of resistance and voltage choices available for different power design needs.

“These new products are expected to serve as a solution that can enhance both efficiency and reliability in server and high-performance PC power systems,” said Hyuk Woo, Chief Technology Officer of Magnachip. “Leveraging our accumulated power semiconductor design expertise and proven manufacturing capabilities, Magnachip will continue to introduce high-value-added power solutions across server, PC, and industrial applications.”
