Greater Flexibility For Open RAN Networks

Mobile networks use a lot of power and are hard to change. A new Arm-based system can make 5G faster, flexible, and save energy.

Mobile operators rolling out Open RAN networks face two major challenges: high power consumption and limited flexibility in scaling performance. These issues drive up costs and make it harder to meet energy efficiency goals.

A new Arm based Lookaside Acceleration solution aims to address both. Developed jointly by SynaXG and Kalray, it helps operators optimize RAN performance while cutting power use, enabling more cost effective and sustainable 5G deployments.

The solution is designed for mobile network operators, system integrators, and cloud providers who need to scale Open RAN networks efficiently. It also supports vendors building carrier grade 5G infrastructure who want more adaptable and energy efficient platforms.

At its core, the solution combines Kalray’s K300 PCIe accelerator card, powered by the Coolidge v2 MPPA processor, with SynaXG’s O RAN software stack. The result is a system that delivers real time optimization, is fully containerized, and can scale easily in cloud environments.

Because it is built on Arm based architecture, the platform improves power efficiency and supports software hardware decoupling. That gives operators more control over how they design and adapt their networks without being locked into fixed hardware setups.

“As Open RAN adoption accelerates, energy efficiency and flexibility are critical for operators,” said Mantosh Malhotra, CBO of SynaXG. “By partnering with Kalray, we are delivering an optimized O-RAN solution in look-aside acceleration that enhances flexibility of RAN software while significantly reducing power consumption.”

“As commercial adoption of Open RAN accelerates, our collaboration with SynaXG marks a significant step toward delivering high-performance, energy-efficient solutions,” said Eric Baissus, CEO of Kalray. “With Lookaside Acceleration, we are empowering operators to optimize performance, reduce costs, and build future-ready networks that meet the demands of both public and private deployments.”
