He is a veteran technology leader, systems architect, standards expert, and mentor with more than 47 years of professional experience spanning education, research, product design, innovation, and technology advisory across the electrical, electronics, semiconductor, ICT, and sustainability sectors. Over the course of his career, Mr. Narang has accumulated more than 37 years of hands-on research and product design experience, contributing to industrial, power, telecommunications, information technology, medical electronics, defense, aerospace, energy, and environmental technologies. He has also spent over 10 years advising businesses, governments, and technology organizations on innovation strategy, technology roadmaps, digital transformation, and standards development. A recognized authority in technology standardization, Mr. Narang has played a leadership role in several national and international standards organizations, including BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), ISO, ITU, IEEE, TEC, TSDSI, and NITI Aayog. He is the Founding Chairman of the Smart Infrastructure Sectional Committee (LITD 28) at BIS, where he leads standardization initiatives in low-voltage DC (LVDC), solar photovoltaic systems, smart energy, smart cities, smart manufacturing, and active assisted living. Internationally, he serves as Vice Chair – Strategy for the IEC Systems Committee on Smart Cities and as Convenor of the Communication Technologies Working Group within the IEC Systems Committee on Communication Technologies and Architectures. His expertise extends to the development of reference architectures for cybersecurity, trustworthiness, smart cities, digital utilities, metaverse technologies, and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). For more than 15 years, he has worked extensively on creating interoperable system standards and standardized interfaces that bridge gaps across electrical, electronics, communication, information technology, and cybersecurity ecosystems. Mr. Narang is also an active contributor to global discussions on responsible technology. He serves on the Steering Committee of OCEANIS (The Open Community for Ethics in Autonomous and Intelligent Systems), where he chairs the Advancing Research Working Group, and is a member of UL Standards Technical Panel 3600, focusing on measuring and reporting circular economy aspects of products, organizations, and industrial sites. Beyond standards and research, Mr. Narang is passionate about mentoring the next generation of innovators. He has guided more than 500 researchers, engineers, innovators, and technology professionals and continues to mentor deep-tech startups working in electric mobility, autonomous vehicles, drones, robotics, artificial intelligence, defense electronics, aerospace, AR/VR/XR, and other strategic technology domains. Mr. Narang also serves as the Standards Column Editor for IEEE IoT Magazine, where he shares insights on emerging technologies, global standards, interoperability, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. His recent work focuses on advancing sustainability, decarbonization, trustworthy AI, digital safety, circular economy practices, and the ethical deployment of disruptive technologies, helping shape resilient and interoperable technology ecosystems for the future.
