Could sacrificing a few premium features save you a fortune? This new CoreXY 3D printer promises reliable performance, practical functionality and a surprisingly affordable price.

Elegoo has introduced the Centauri 2, a budget-friendly CoreXY 3D printer designed to make high-speed 3D printing more affordable. The company has removed the enclosed chamber, integrated camera, lighting and several enclosure-related sensors while retaining the same CoreXY motion system used in the premium Centauri Carbon 2 model.

The most noticeable change is the absence of an enclosed build chamber. While this limits support for certain engineering-grade materials that require stable thermal conditions, it remains suitable for commonly used filaments such as PLA. As a result, users focused on everyday prototyping, educational projects and hobby printing can still achieve reliable performance without paying for features they may never use.
Other omitted features include the integrated camera, internal lighting and a number of sensors associated with enclosure monitoring and thermal management. Without the camera, users cannot remotely monitor print jobs or create time-lapse videos. Nevertheless, the printer continues to offer the same fundamental printing platform, ensuring that print quality and motion performance remain largely unchanged for standard applications.
The simplified design has enabled the manufacturer to reduce the entry price to US$299, making it significantly more affordable than its premium counterpart. Buyers seeking additional capabilities can still opt for a multi-material upgrade package at a higher price.
By focusing on the features most users rely on while eliminating premium extras, the new printer provides a cost-effective option for students, makers, educators and small workshops. Its balance of affordability, dependable performance and CoreXY architecture is likely to make it an attractive choice for users entering the world of high-speed desktop 3D printing.
