Littelfuse, Inc has introduced the 871 Series Ultra-High Amperage SMD Fuse. Offering amperage ratings of 150A and 200A, the Series stands as a significant enhancement over the previous 881 Series, which capped at 125A. This new series simplifies electronic designs by providing a surface-mounted fuse solution that eliminates the need for parallel fusing, saving space and reducing complexity. As the first compact surface-mount device (SMD) fuse to offer such high amperage ratings, the Series addresses modern electronics’ growing power demands. Previously, designers were forced to use larger through-hole fuses to achieve similar amperage levels.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • High Amperage Ratings: 150A and 200A, offering robust power protection in a single fuse
  • Compact Design: Small form factor saves valuable PCB  space
  • Simplified Design Process: Reduces the number of components by eliminating parallel fusing
  • Simplified bill of materials (BOM).
  • Enhanced Efficiency: Allows for optimized, space-saving designs.

With this new solution, electronics engineers can create more streamlined and space-efficient designs, making the Series a game-changer for high-power applications. This product features a heat-resistant plastic body with a UL94 V-0 rating, ensuring safety and durability even in high-temperature environments. It has a low voltage drop, enhancing energy efficiency, and incorporates a high-reliability solderless fuse for long-term stability. Designed with high pulse resistance, the product is compatible with lead-free solders and can withstand higher temperature profiles. It is both halogen-free and RoHS-compliant, making it environmentally friendly.

It is AEC-Q200-qualified, ensuring it meets automotive industry standards. They are ideal for high-power applications such as data centres, network infrastructure, and server systems, offering reliable protection in critical environments. The Series High-Current SMD Fuse is available in tape and reel packaging, with samples accessible through Littelfuse’s authorized distributors worldwide.

“The 871 Series Fuse is a significant step forward in fuse technology, allowing engineers to streamline their designs and reduce the number of components needed,” said Daniel Wang, Senior Director of Product Management. “By saving PCB space, this new fuse series enables more efficient and compact product designs.”
