Compact Heterogeneous SoM For Embedded

Designed for robust industrial operation, this versatile module boasts rich high-speed connectivity—from PCIe Gen2 to DisplayPort and Gigabit Ethernet—and flexible memory options, making it ideal for applications ranging from surveillance to motor control and sensor fusion.

SoM

ELDAAS Technologies has once again pushed the boundaries of embedded innovation with its latest offering: the elSoM-5CG, a next-generation System on Module (SoM) engineered for diverse, demanding embedded applications. Compact yet immensely powerful at just 60mm x 50mm, this SoM leverages the Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC architecture, offering heterogeneous multiprocessing capabilities that combine a dual-core Arm Cortex-A53 MP Core Application Processing Unit (up to 1.3GHz) with a dual-core Arm Cortex-R5F MP Core Real-Time Processing Unit (up to 533MHz)1. This hybrid configuration harnesses the real-time, parallel processing muscle of an FPGA, delivering ultra-high performance while maintaining exceptional design flexibility.

The key features are:

  • Engineered for durability; rated for -40°C to +100°C industrial temperature range
  • Reliable in mission-critical and harsh environments
  • OS-flexible: supports PetaLinux or no-OS drivers for lean-edge use
  • Operates with 3.3V standalone supply or 48V PoE via carrier board

It is purpose-built for applications that demand both versatility and robust computing muscle — from surveillance and sensor control to sensor fusion, motor control, and cost-sensitive ultrasound systems1. Developers benefit from a rich set of peripherals, including PCIe Gen2, USB 3.0, SATA 3.1, DisplayPort, and Gigabit Ethernet. The device’s modular design ensures seamless integration with development boards through high-speed, board-to-board connectors from Samtec, boasting up to 143 IOs, dramatically accelerating time-to-market for new products.

In terms of memory, it offers a variety of configurations: LPDDR4/4X RAM (from 4Gb to 16Gb), flash QSPI options (256Mb to 1Gb), and eMMC storage capacities ranging from 8GB to 32GB. Storage expansion is further supported with SD cards up to 32GB1. Multiple interface connectors — including 80, 16, 20, and 50 pin high-speed Samtec connectors — support an array of industrial protocols (I2C, UART, SPI) and plentiful programmable logic IOs, making customization straightforward and scalable.
