Rohde & Schwarz has announced the release of R&S UMS400, a Universal Monitoring System with a wide operation range. The device has been designed to be used for outdoor spectrum monitoring and radiolocation of sporadic interferers. Moreover, it features other options for radiolocation such as angle of arrival (AOA) and the time difference of arrival (TDOA). The compact size of the device allows for its usage in mobile monitoring stations as well as in remote-controlled fixed operating stations.

According to the company, the monitoring system can operate from 8 kHz to 8 GHz and can be further extended up to 20 GHz. The R&S UMS400 supports signal measurements in line with ITU Recommendations and can be integrated into monitoring systems running the R&S ARGUS spectrum monitoring software or other similar control software. It also features a rapid spectrum scan with the R&S CS-PS panorama scan option. The small size makes it a good choice for small and temporary operations which includes event monitoring and radiolocation of sporadic interferers.

The company claims that the monitoring system can be used for applications such as direction finding (DF) when used with devices such as the Rohde & Schwarz DF antenna. The internal computer available in the device allows the device to store data internally and independently-run the device.

The R&S UMS400 supports signal measurements in line with ITU recommendations and its open interface allows the integration of monitoring systems that run R&S ARGUS spectrum monitoring software or other control software. The R&S UMS400 can also network several stations that use similar R&S UMS400 for radiolocation and other monitoring tasks, such as automated detection, identification, and localization of interfering signals and unlicensed emissions.
