The rapid growth of cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure has placed unprecedented demands on data center construction. Projects must be delivered at speed while maintaining precision, worker safety, and cost control, particularly during repetitive and physically demanding tasks such as large scale concrete drilling.

DEWALT has introduced a fleet capable robotic drilling system designed specifically to accelerate concrete drilling in data centre construction environments. Developed in collaboration with a robotics specialist, the solution is designed to automate one of the most time consuming stages of the construction workflow.

The robotic system performs downward concrete drilling autonomously, handling thousands of precisely located holes required for server rack stops and structural supports for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. It operates as part of a coordinated fleet, allowing multiple units to work in parallel across large construction sites. By automating drilling operations, the system increases throughput while maintaining consistent depth and positioning accuracy. Pilot deployments have shown that the robot can significantly reduce construction timelines while improving drilling consistency and reducing manual labor exposure to dust, vibration, and overhead work.

Key features of the robotic system include:

  • Autonomous downward concrete drilling
  • Fleet based operation for large scale projects
  • Drilling speeds up to ten times faster than manual methods
  • High accuracy of hole depth and placement
  • Reduced exposure to dust and vibration for workers
  • Integration into existing construction workflows

Bill Beck, President of Tools and Outdoor at Stanley Black and Decker.“Our customers consistently emphasize that speed of construction is critical. The robotic drilling solution meets this need head-on through schedule acceleration, cost savings, near-perfect accuracy and enhanced jobsite safety. DEWALT’s relentless pursuit of innovation to drive productivity is redefining how the world builds.”
