Multi Axis Laser Scan Head

Dive in to know how this high-precision, multi-axis laser scanning can improve medical, electronics, semiconductor and advanced additive manufacturing processes

Multi Axis Laser Scan Head
The new AGV-CPO laser scan head perfectly balances performance and value for the widest range of laser applications. As the entry point for our high-performance 2-axis laser scan heads, the AGV-CPO includes all the CORE performance capabilities of our AGV-HPO and AGV-XPO scanners – plus 22-bit resolution, excellent dynamics and ultra-low thermal drift.

As laser micromachining expands across industries, manufacturers demand systems that combine precision, speed and stability without excessive cost. Existing solutions often require trade-offs between resolution, dynamics and integration flexibility, limiting their deployment in research, medical, electronics and semiconductor applications.

To address this need, Aerotech has launched the AGV-CPO CORE Performance 2-Axis Laser Scan Head, designed to deliver high-end performance with flexibility and value. The new scanner incorporates the CORE capabilities of Aerotech’s flagship 2-axis models while adding 22-bit resolution, ultra-low thermal drift, and exceptional dynamics, making it suitable for a broad range of laser processes.

The device includes a single-controller architecture, enabling up to 32 coordinated servo and galvo axes via Aerotech’s Automation1 environment. This unified platform simplifies system integration, supports advanced motion paths and offers RS-274 G-code programming, motion lookahead and C-transformations. Precision is enhanced by digital optical encoders and advanced materials, while infinite field of view (IFOV) allows seamless integration with servo stages, eliminating stitching errors and expanding the effective working area. Position synchronized output (PSO) ensures accurate laser firing by tracking real-time mirror and stage positions, critical for cutting, welding or additive manufacturing. Integrated cooling systems maintain ultra-low thermal drift, ensuring stable, repeatable operations.

Key features of the device include:
