The Hardware & Firmware R&D Engineer will play a key role in developing new product platforms from concept to prototype. This role is suited for engineers who excel in hands-on development and can independently translate ideas into functional hardware and firmware solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Development:
- Lead end-to-end development of electronic hardware for next-generation products.
- Design analog and digital circuits, develop schematics, and create high-quality PCB layouts.
- Evaluate and integrate sensors, actuators, wireless modules, embedded processors, and power systems.
- Build proof-of-concepts (POCs) and engineering prototypes.
- Conduct hardware testing, validation, debugging, and iterative improvements.
Firmware Development:
- Develop efficient, reliable firmware for microcontrollers, SoCs, and embedded platforms.
- Work with C/C++, RTOS, and embedded frameworks.
- Implement device drivers and communication protocols, including I²C, SPI, UART, USB, PWM, and ADC.
- Develop communication stacks, control algorithms, and system-level integration logic.
System Integration:
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, firmware, cloud, and UX teams for holistic product integration.
- Conduct system-level testing and performance optimization across hardware, firmware, and supporting subsystems.
- Drive rapid iteration cycles for prototype refinement and performance validation.
Required Skills and Competencies
Hardware:
- Strong expertise in analog/digital circuit design.
- High-speed PCB design experience using Altium, Cadence, or OrCAD.
- Practical understanding of sensors, motors, actuators, and power electronics.
- Experience with BLE, Wi-Fi, and RF communication technologies.
- Proficiency with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, spectrum analysers, and power analysers.
Firmware:
- Proficiency in C/C++, embedded software development, and RTOS environments.
- Hands-on experience with ARM Cortex, STM32, ESP32, and similar microcontroller platforms.
- Strong understanding of embedded communication protocols and driver development.
- Experience with control algorithms and system-level firmware architecture.
Experience Required
- 6–8 years of experience in electronics and embedded systems engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver functional hardware and firmware prototypes—not limited to simulations.
- Experience in R&D environments, rapid prototyping, or consumer electronics development is preferred.
Role Expectations
- Ability to independently take concepts through the full development cycle: Concept → Hardware Design → Firmware Development → Prototype → Testing → Iteration.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under ambiguity and tight timelines.
- Commitment to engineering excellence, attention to detail, and high-quality execution.
- Ability to take ownership of technical deliverables and contribute meaningfully to product innovation.
