TDK Corporation has expanded its TDK-Lambda CN-B110 series with new 50W, 100W, and 150W quarter-brick DC-DC converters. These converters operate with a wide input voltage range of 43 to 160Vdc, making them suitable for 72Vdc or 110Vdc nominal railway systems, including rail rolling stock and trackside equipment applications.

The converters are suitable for rail operators, manufacturers, and system integrators. Public transportation authorities and industrial engineers working in high-voltage, harsh environments can also benefit from these converters

The new models offer output options of 5V, 12V, 15V, 24V, and 48V, extending the CN-B110 series from 50W to 300W. The trim function allows voltage adjustment using a resistor or external voltage to compensate for voltage drops or accommodate non-standard system voltages.

Designed to meet stringent high-voltage requirements for transients and 5000m altitude, the CN-B110 series features adequate spacing between the primary input and baseplate for 2500Vac isolation. The input-to-output isolation is 3000Vac, and the output-to-baseplate isolation is 500Vac. With up to 92% efficiency, power losses are minimized, enabling operation at baseplate temperatures from -40°C to +100°C with little to no derating at high temperatures.

Optional heatsinks or cold plates facilitate cooling via the module’s aluminium baseplate.

The 50W to 150W models come standard with remote on/off functionality and offer an optional 7-11V 10mA auxiliary output, which replaces the negative remote sense function. Additional options include board coating, unthreaded mounting holes, a short 3mm pin length, and no encapsulation. The converters have overall dimensions of 12.7mm in height, 37.2mm in width, and 58.3mm in length.

All models are CE and UKCA certified for compliance with the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives and meet safety standards. They also adhere to the IEC 61373 Category 1, Class B shock and vibration standards for rolling stock and are designed to comply with fire protection regulations for railway vehicles and electronic equipment standards for railroad vehicles when used in certified systems.
