A compact transformer designed for high-voltage systems ensures performance with low coupling capacitance, strong insulation, and a wide temperature range.

TDK Corporation has introduced the EPCOS EP9 series, a compact surface-mount transformer designed for IGBT and FET gate driver circuits. Smaller than the E10EM series, it supports 500 V system voltage and is suited for e-mobility and industrial applications. The EP9 series features MnZn ferrite core construction with an SMD L-pin design, measuring 13 x 11 mm with an 11 mm height. It operates from −40 °C to +150 °C, has a 2 pF coupling capacitance, meets AEC-Q200 Rev. E standards, and provides 5 mm creepage and clearance, making it suitable for automotive and other demanding applications. Supporting half-bridge and push-pull topologies at 100–400 kHz, it comes in tape-and-reel packaging for high-volume production. A sample kit includes six transformers of each version.
The series is designed for automotive, industrial, and e-mobility manufacturers developing inverter systems, DC-DC converters, and power electronics. It is suitable for engineers and designers working on IGBT and MOSFET gate driver circuits, as well as companies requiring compact, thermally resilient transformers for high-reliability applications. Used in inverter systems as gate driver transformers and as auxiliary transformers for DC-DC converters, the EP9 series ensures reliable operation in various power electronics systems.
Some of the key features of the EPCOS EP9 series include:
- Dimensions: 13 x 11 x 11 mm (L x W x H)
- Wide temperature range: −40 °C up to +150 °C
- Very low coupling capacity: 2 pF
- Insulation characteristics: creepage and clearance ≥5 mm [cumulative, core floating]
- Qualified to AEC-Q200 Rev. E
TDK offers capacitors, sensors, power supplies, energy devices, and magnetic heads. Its products are used in cars, factories, consumer electronics, and communication technology. It has offices and factories in different parts of the world.
