A new ultra-efficient DIN-rail module brings 40A redundancy and low-loss parallel operation to industrial power systems, offering a compact, high-reliability solution for factories and mission-critical equipment.

A new high-efficiency redundancy module from RECOM is targeting factory automation, process control and mission-critical industrial systems that cannot afford power interruptions. The RACPRO1-RD40 delivers up to 40A in a compact DIN-rail package, offering designers a simpler way to build redundant or load-sharing power architectures without the bulk and loss penalties of traditional diode-ORing solutions.
The key features:
- Handles 40A output (60A for 5s) with low-loss MOSFET redundancy/parallel operation.
- 140mV drop and 99.5% efficiency for minimal heat and power loss.
- Supports 9–56V DC inputs with 63V reverse-output immunity.
- Operates –40°C to +70°C, <200mW no-load, 268,000h lifetime.
- 43mm slim design with push-in terminals and tool-less DIN-rail mounting.
At the core of the module are two MOSFETs configured as low-loss gating diodes, allowing AC/DC power supplies to be deployed in n+1 redundant or parallel configurations. For redundancy, each RD40 can support 20A load per channel from two 20A AC/DC units, ensuring uninterrupted output even if one supply goes offline. In parallel mode, the module can push a combined 40A continuous output (and 60A for 5 seconds)—all on convection cooling only, across an operating range of –40°C to +70°C.
Efficiency figures stand out: with a maximum voltage drop of just 140mV, the module achieves up to 99.5% efficiency and typically dissipates only 5W, making it attractive for space- and thermal-constrained cabinets. Multiple RD40 modules can also be paralleled for systems demanding higher currents.
Designed for 12–48V DC rails (9–56V DC operating window), the RD40 offers reverse-output immunity up to 63V (70V peak). Industrial-grade robustness is backed by compliance with IEC/EN/UL/CSA 62368-1 safety standards, EN 61000-6-4 Class B emissions, and EN 61000-6-2 immunity requirements. No-load consumption remains below 200mW, and the module is rated for a 268,000-hour lifetime at 40°C, underscoring suitability for harsh, long-duty industrial deployments.
Installation is geared toward quick field integration: the unit measures just 43mm wide, uses push-in angled terminals, and supports tool-less DIN-rail mounting, reducing assembly time for panel builders and machine OEMs.With its combination of slim packaging, low-loss MOSFET gating, and certified industrial ruggedness, the RACPRO1-RD40 targets applications ranging from automated production lines to safety-critical control systems—anywhere a power supply failure is not an option.
