High voltage batteries power modern electric vehicles but what keeps their control and safety systems running? Can a 4kW DC DC solution tackle this challenge?

As battery-powered on- and off-highway vehicles move to higher traction voltages, designers still need reliable low-voltage rails for control systems, safety electronics, and auxiliary loads. RECOM have launched RMOD4000 series which delivers up to 4kW of isolated DC/DC power, depending on variant and input voltage. With efficiency up to 95% and options for baseplate or liquid cooling, it reduces heat generation and supports stable operation in demanding environments. The operating temperature range of –40°C to +85°C without derating allows use in outdoor, off-highway, and marine conditions.
System reliability is a major concern in electric and hybrid vehicles, especially where downtime affects operations such as material handling, construction, airport ground support, and marine transport. The series provides a fully regulated output with protection against over-current, over-voltage, over-temperature, and short circuits. On the input side, under- and over-voltage lockout and active inrush current suppression help protect upstream battery systems.
For vehicle OEMs and integrators, monitoring and control are equally important. An isolated CAN J1939 interface enables control and data monitoring, including output voltage adjustment. A separate hardware on/off (ignition) control and HV interlock function support safe system integration. An integrated OR-ing function allows multiple units to be paralleled for redundancy or higher power, with active current sharing—useful in mission-critical or higher-load applications.
Compliance and safety are key barriers in vehicle electrification projects. The series provides reinforced isolation according to IEC 62477-1 and meets vehicle safety standards ISO 6469-3 and ISO 7637. It is certified to EMC standard ECE R10 Rev. 4 (E-mark), helping manufacturers simplify approval processes.
The units are housed in a cast aluminium enclosure rated IP67 for water and dust protection. They support baseplate or water cooling through integrated coolant ports. Measuring 316 × 254 × 83 mm, they use sealed plug-in connectors for input and output, easing installation in harsh operating environments.
The series is designed for engineers building battery-powered on- and off-highway vehicles and marine systems who need high-voltage to low-voltage conversion that is efficient, protected, compliant, and ready for integration.
