DC/DC Converters For Space-Limited Applications

The DC/DC converters are designed for tight spaces, offering efficiency and performance in industrial and technological environments.

RECOM has introduced a new line of isolated through-hole DC/DC converters designed for space-limited product configurations, available in 10W, 20W, and 30W models. These components, housed in compact 1” x 1” industry-standard packages and only 0.4” high, offer cost-effectiveness, broad input ranges, and high efficiency for dependable performance in high ambient temperatures.

The target users of isolated through-hole DC/DC converters span multiple industries where compact, efficient, and reliable power solutions are crucial. Key user groups include electronics designers and engineers working on space-constrained electronics, automotive industry professionals needing durable power supplies for varying temperatures, firms in industrial automation, telecommunications companies, and aerospace and defence entities.

The REC30K series, rated at 30W, mirrors these input and output options but includes an additional input range of 36V to 75V with a 2:1 ratio and enhanced efficiency. The REC10K models can operate in ambient temperatures ranging from -40°C to 100°C with derating, whereas the REC20K and REC30K series can handle up to 105°C.

These units maintain tight control over line and load regulation, exhibit low ripple and noise, and allow for a +/-10% adjustment in output voltage on single-output models. Comprehensive protection against input Undervoltage, output overcurrent, overvoltage, and short circuits is standard. An on/off control feature minimises the current draw when the DC/DC converters are not in use, making them suitable for energy-efficient applications.

Isolation meets the ‘functional’ grade defined by IEC/EN/UL62368-1 standards, with 1600VDC/1 min for REC10K models and 2kVDC/1 min for REC20K and REC30K models. External filters, as recommended in the datasheets, are necessary to achieve ‘Class A and B’ EMI standards.

Matthew Dauterive, MSc. RECOM’s DC/DC product manager comments, “Our advanced design and packaging techniques in these new DC/DCs result in a great combination of power density, performance, and price, ideal for space—and cost-sensitive applications where quality cannot be compromised.”
