As embedded platforms increasingly consolidate mixed criticality workloads on multicore processors, system developers face rising complexity around functional safety, cybersecurity, and certification. Industrial, automotive, and AI driven applications require strict isolation between safety critical and non critical software while maintaining flexibility for rich operating systems. This has increased demand for certified software ecosystems that reduce development risk and shorten time to compliance.

TQ Systems has expanded the software ecosystem of its long term embedded computing platform, the TQMa8x, by adding support for SYSGO’s PikeOS real time operating system. The integration enables safety certifiable development on NXP i.MX8 based hardware, allowing mixed criticality workloads to run on a single module while meeting stringent functional safety and security requirements across regulated industries.

The hypervisor based RTOS is designed to support multiple guest operating systems, including Linux, POSIX, and ARINC environments, alongside native real time tasks. Certification kits support functional safety up to IEC 61508 SIL 4, with additional pre-certification for automotive, avionics, and railway standards, as well as Common Criteria EAL 5+ for cybersecurity. The underlying processor architecture offers up to two Cortex A72 and four Cortex A53 cores, integrated graphics, and Vulkan SC GPU support for safety certified HMI and AI applications.

Key features of the platform include:

  • Hypervisor based mixed criticality execution on multicore hardware
  • Functional safety support up to IEC 61508 SIL 4
  • Pre certified compliance with automotive, avionics, and railway standards
  • Multicore ARM architecture with integrated graphics acceleration
  • Vulkan SC support for safety certified HMI and AI workloads

Franz Walkembach, VP of Marketing and Alliances, says, “By porting PikeOS to the TQMa8x, we are creating an optimal platform for highly integrated, safety critical embedded systems for our joint customers.”
