Microchip Technology has diversified its edge AI portfolio with production-ready full-stack solutions designed for its MCUs and MPUs. The offering combines silicon, optimised ML models, development software and application frameworks to simplify real-world deployment. Instead of supplying only processors, the company now delivers integrated platforms aimed at accelerating secure and scalable edge intelligence.

The solution includes pre-trained, deployable models paired with adaptable application code. Targeted use cases include AI-based arc fault detection, predictive maintenance through condition monitoring, facial recognition with liveness detection and keyword spotting for voice-controlled systems. These solutions can be implemented using the company’s development environment or through partner ecosystems.

The development is centred on the MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment, supported by the MPLAB Harmony framework and MPLAB ML Development Suite for model integration and optimisation. Engineers can begin with proof of concept designs on 8-bit MCUs and scale to higher-performance 16 or 32-bit devices as application requirements increase. To accelerate compute-intensive workloads, the VectorBlox Accelerator SDK enables AI inference for vision, HMI, and sensor analytics applications on FPGA platforms.

By integrating processors, hardware acceleration, software frameworks and deployable AI workloads within a single Edge AI platform, the company strengthens its position in embedded intelligence and advances production-ready edge AI deployment across multiple end markets.

Mark Reiten, Corporate Vice President of Microchip’s Edge AI business unit, says, “AI at the edge is no longer experimental—it is expected. Our full-stack solutions combine MCUs, MPUs, and FPGAs with optimised ML models and development tools, enabling customers to deploy secure, intelligent systems quickly in demanding markets.”
