Supports data rates up to 5 Mbps and ensures reliable communication in harsh environments, it’s ideal for applications ranging from ADAS and infotainment to body control modules and industrial CAN networks.

CAN FD Transceiver For Automotives

NOVOSENSE Microelectronics has announced the European debut of four advanced CAN transceivers along with a new stepper motor driver. These additions reinforce the company’s commitment to supporting the evolving needs of OEMs and Tier 1 automotive suppliers across the continent, particularly in the domain of body electronics and ECU communication systems.

With the increasing number of electronic control units (ECUs) in modern vehicles, the reliability of in-vehicle communication systems is under growing pressure. Controller Area Network (CAN) systems, which serve as the communication backbone for body control modules, powertrain, lighting, and infotainment systems, face growing challenges from electromagnetic interference (EMI).

The NCA1044-Q1, a high-speed CAN FD transceiver supporting data rates up to 5 Mbps. Designed for ISO11898-2-2024 compliance and compatible with SAE J2284-1 to J2284-5 standards, it provides advanced EMI suppression, thermal protection, and a low-current standby mode with bus wake-up functionality. These features ensure energy-efficient ECU operation even in the presence of EMI from components such as ignition systems and inverters.

The key features are:

  • Passive CAN bus behavior when power is off
  • Supports I/O voltages: 1.8V, 3.3V, 5V
  • Bus fault protection: ±58V
  • Bus common-mode voltage: ±30V
  • Low-current standby mode with wake-up
  • Data rate up to 5 Mbps
  • Low loop delay (<250 ns)

The transceivers have passed stringent IBEE/FTZ-Zwickau EMC certification, a benchmark referenced by major European automakers. Key specifications include wide I/O voltage support (1.8V to 5V), bus fault protection from -58V to +58V, operation at temperatures from -40°C to 125°C, and AEC-Q100 Grade 1 automotive qualification. Additionally, NOVOSENSE’s new stepper motor driver enhances actuator control in automotive body applications.

These new products are ideal for CANopen, DeviceNet, ISO11783, and other CAN-based standards. Applications range from ADAS and infotainment systems to body control modules and automotive gateways, ensuring reliable performance even in high-load or low-speed networks. This transceiver is suitable for a wide range of applications including CAN bus standards such as CANopen, DeviceNet, NMEA2000, ARINC 825, ISO11783, and CANaerospace. It is ideal for highly loaded CAN networks operating at data rates as low as 10 kbps. Common use cases include automotive gateways, body control modules, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and infotainment systems.
