Its multi-voltage flexibility, compact design, and global certifications make it the ideal solution for machine builders seeking performance, simplicity, and worldwide compatibility.

Kollmorgen has unveiled its latest innovation in direct drive linear (DDL) motor technology—an advanced IC Ironcore DDL motor designed specifically for medium- and high-voltage applications. This new model brings exceptional performance, compactness, and simplicity to machine builders across Europe, North America, and Asia.
By operating at higher voltages, the new IC Ironcore DDL reduces current draw, enabling use of smaller drive amplifiers and lighter cables. Additionally, it can often eliminate the need for transformers in high-voltage environments. The result: simplified system architecture, reduced component weight, and a smaller control cabinet with lower cooling demands. An available water-cooling option further boosts continuous force output by up to 60%, allowing for even more compact and efficient designs.
The key features are:
- Supports 400/480 VAC applications
- Continuous force up to 8,211 N
- Peak force up to 13,448 N
- Maintains rated force at higher speeds
It’s ideal for high-demand applications such as semiconductor manufacturing, machine tools, battery production, and industrial automation. This motor is a game-changer for global machine builders. Its multi-voltage capability (230/400/480 VAC) allows OEMs to serve multiple markets with a single machine platform—without the need for major redesigns. Fully UL and CE certified and compliant with RoHS and REACH standards, the motor streamlines international approvals and accelerates time-to-market.
The high-voltage IC Ironcore DDL complements the company’s full portfolio of direct drive linear motors, including the ICD Ironcore Low Profile and IL Ironless models. When paired with the company’s AKD or dual-axis AKD2G servo drives, these motors deliver unmatched precision, control, and reliability. The AKD2G also allows for space-saving dual-motor synchronization—perfect for x/y applications.
“This launch marks a significant leap forward in our linear motion offerings,” says Chris Cooper, senior director of product management. “We’re empowering machine builders with the tools they need to create lighter, smarter, and globally competitive systems.”
