MediaTek is the first TV SoC provider to offer Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail.  Precision Detail is a new unique feature for TVs with Dolby Vision IQ that will be enabled in MediaTek’s Pentonic range of smart TVs in 8K and 4K. Furthermore, the Pentonic series will enable TV manufacturers to offer Dolby Vision gaming features as well as other sophisticated capabilities. MediaTek and Dolby collaborated on the development of these technologies, which will be accessible for TV OEMs to deploy starting in the second half of 2022.

Precision Detail adds to Dolby’s range of advanced imaging technologies available through Dolby Vision IQ, displaying amazing detail in both bright and dark sections of Dolby Vision content. Images on 8K and 4K smart TVs take on a new level with stunning clarity thanks to the addition of texture and depth. In addition to Precision Detail, MediaTek’s Intelligent View technology, when combined with Dolby’s latest image breakthroughs, can handle multiple Dolby Vision streams at the same time. Consumers may now watch numerous media sources in Dolby Vision in several windows at the same time, all in amazing detail.

“With our industry-leading chips, paired with astonishing visual and audio technologies powered by Dolby, MediaTek and Dolby are making truly immersive and cinematic entertainment experiences more accessible,” said Alex Chen, General Manager of the TV Business Unit at MediaTek. “MediaTek’s Pentonic series will make it easy for OEMs to bring Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail to the next generation of 8K and 4K smart TVs.”

Gameplay is additionally improved by MediaTek Pentonic’s support for Dolby Vision gaming features. This includes features that TV manufacturers will be able to offer their customers, such as Dolby Vision gaming at 4K 120Hz. Additionally, Pentonic chips will improve latency and display upgrades when gaming in Dolby Vision via Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), allowing players to have a better gaming experience.

“For the past decade, Dolby Vision has continuously raised the bar of immersive entertainment experiences. Dolby Vision IQ continues this legacy by expanding the benefits of Dolby Vision beyond HDR through innovations like Precision Detail,” said Mathias Bendull, Vice President, Living Room at Dolby Laboratories.
